We Need Your Input!

How Can We Best Protect the Alabama Hills? What will Success look like in 5, 10, 50 years?

The Alabama Hills Stewardship Group is making a plan to guide our Stewardship efforts in the Hills and our strategic responses to the Bureau of Land Management’s Management Plan for the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area.

Who: All interested people who love the Hills

What: Community Input Meeting

Where: Zoom- send your email to [email protected] or  [email protected] to receive a zoom invitation

When: Thursday March 4 at 5:30 pm

Why: How can we make our plan better? We want to know- what did we miss? Where should our focus/efforts be strengthened? Join us and in breakout “zoom rooms” give us your input and suggestions.

This meeting is not to change or add to the BLM’s Management Plan, or to discuss a possible name change to the Hills, but to sculpt our Action Plan into manageable, quantifiable actions and objectives.

Here’s What we have so far:

Stewardship is our Over“arch”ing  Goal involving three main areas of focus:

  1. Activities which can include: Clean up Days, Revegetation, Volunteer and Citizen Science activities. Advocacy with Public Policy makers and stakeholders. Measuring human impacts with the goal of eliminating impacts harmful to the Scenic Area.
  2. Education and Interpretation: Leave No Trace principles for visitors and locals. A coordinated social media plan leading people toward doing the right things and replicating our stewardship messages. A docent program. Youth and Priority Population focus on increased diversity.
  3. Overseeing/Administration: Checking on the BLM management plan’s implementation with our input continuing to be valued/implemented. Living up to the Vision Statement. Frequent fine-tuning of our plan.

Other: What are we missing?
